# Categories

> Group stores so visitors can browse and search them.

Categories group similar stores, such as **Fashion** or **Food & Drink**. Visitors can browse them in the viewer, and search also matches category names.

## Add a category

Choose **+ Add Category** and type a name. It saves when you leave the field. You can also upload an **Icon** and an **Illustration** for each category.

To use a category, open a store and select it. A store can belong to more than one category.

## Map icons

On the map, each store's name has a small icon. If the category has an uploaded icon, that one is used. Otherwise CX picks one from the category name, for example a fork and knife for **Restaurants** or a shirt for **Fashion**.

## Search words

After you save a category name, CX adds related search words in the background. For example, a **Washrooms** category might also match restroom or toilet. Renaming the category creates new words.

## Tips

* Use a few broad categories rather than many small ones.
* Keep names short so they fit on phones and touchscreens.
* Before deleting a category, move its stores to another one.
