# Directions overview

> How CX works out routes, and how to turn directions on.

Directions are automatic. CX works out every route from your [floor plan](https://cxdocs.planpoint.io/project/floorplan.md) and your store outlines. There is nothing to draw and nothing to publish.

## What CX uses

| From | Used as |
| - | - |
| Walls | Obstacles visitors walk around |
| Doors | Store entrances. A store without a door gets an entrance on its longest open side. |
| Stairs in the floor plan | A link to the floor above |
| Elevators and escalators in the directory | A link between floors. See [Floor links](https://cxdocs.planpoint.io/wayfinding/vertical-connections.md). |
| Store outlines | Where each store is, and which door belongs to it |

When you change the floor plan or a store outline, routes update by themselves the next time the map is opened.

## Turn directions on

Go to **Wayfinding & Positioning** and turn on **Visitor directions**. This needs a floor plan.

If a route looks wrong or a store can't be reached, use **Route adjustments > Edit routes**. See [Route adjustments](https://cxdocs.planpoint.io/wayfinding/build-routes.md).

## Route appearance

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| Route Color | Colour of the route line |
| User Dot Size | Size of the blue "you are here" dot |
| Show arrow indicators | Arrows along the route |
| Disable route animations | Draws the route without animation |
| Route corner style | **Sharp** or **Rounded** corners |
