# Floor links

> Connect floors with stairs, elevators and escalators.

Visitors can only be routed to another floor through a floor link. There are three ways to add one.

## Stairs: draw them in the floor plan

Stairs you draw with the **Stairs** tool in the [floor plan editor](https://cxdocs.planpoint.io/project/floorplan.md) connect to the floor above automatically.

## Elevators and escalators: add them as amenities

In the directory, add one amenity on each floor with the same name, such as **Elevator 1** or **Escalator 2**, at the same spot on every floor. CX links them automatically. See [Amenities](https://cxdocs.planpoint.io/directory/amenities.md#elevators-escalators-and-stairs).

## Add a link by hand

Use this when a link is missing or needs a different setup.

**1. Open Floor links**

Go to **Wayfinding & Positioning > Route adjustments > Edit routes** and open the **Floor links** tab.

**2. Add the link**

Choose **Add floor link**. Give it a **Link name** and choose the **Transport**: elevator, stairs, escalator or ramp.

**3. Set the direction**

Choose **Both directions**, **Up only** or **Down only**. For example, an escalator that only goes up is **Up only**.

**4. Place the landings**

Each floor the link serves has a landing: the spot where visitors get on or off. Pick the floor under **Served floor**, use the move button and click next to the elevator doors or stairs, on the walkway. Use **+ Served floor** for more floors.

**5. Save and test**

Choose **Save changes**, then try a route between floors in the **Routes** tab.

To remove a link, select it and use the trash button.
